Saudi Arabia and the UAE refused to open their airspace to Israeli and American aircraft

Saudi Arabia and the UAE declined to grant access to their airspace for Israeli and American aircraft attempting to intercept missiles and drones launched by Iran last Saturday targeting Israel. Arab officials, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, indicated that while the Gulf nations refrained from opening their airspace, they did collaborate by sharing intelligence with the US and Israel, contributing to the successful defense against the Iranian attack. The newspaper highlighted Riyadh and Abu Dhabi’s efforts to maintain neutrality amidst the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a separate development, Jordan announced that its armed forces intercepted “flying objects” that breached the country’s airspace on Saturday night, prioritizing the safety of its citizens and residential areas. The Jordanian cabinet emphasized its commitment to intercepting any threats to the kingdom’s security, whether originating from air or land.

Iran’s offensive against Israel was launched in retaliation for the latter’s missile strike on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus on April 1, resulting in the deaths of several senior military advisors.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel assured members of the ruling Likud Party that the country would respond judiciously to the unprecedented Iranian attack, emphasizing a measured approach over emotional reactions.
